Welcome to my Website!

A Joyful Journey!

*Watercolor and mixed media

*Pen and pencil drawings
Everywhere I go, I visualize the landscape and seascape as a painting. It is exciting to create my interpretation into a beautiful piece of art. I am especially drawn to the Pacific Northwest coast and Mt. Hood, Oregon area. Its ever-changing beauty provides a rich environment for me to paint.

I am fascinated with the geology, archeology, natural history, and cultural history of our country.

These areas of focus combine my love of outdoor adventures with my love of painting. For me the journey of painting is a joyful one.

Also, in my website be sure to visit the Jean’s Quilts page displaying my wife Jean’s incredible quilting. Enjoy her fascinating story of quilting.

For many years I have lived here in the Oregon Cascade Mountains, near the Mt. Hood Wilderness. During that time, I have been a ski instructor, hiker, backpacker, climber and a Wilderness Steward for the Mt. Hood National Forest. Our beautiful Mountain and its remarkable history and geology have been a continuous inspiration to me as an artist.

This area is also rich in Indigenous, Lewis & Clark and Oregon Trail stories and history. Through my art, I enjoy telling some of these compelling stories and painting historical subjects.

Some of my paintings celebrate the peace and beauty of our Pacific Northwest rain forest. Above the Oregon rain forest, at higher elevations, winter snows bury the Cascade Mountains, to the glee of watershed managers and skiers alike. See more of my land and seascapes.

One of my idols is Alaskan artist and family friend, Fred Makatanz. He is famous for his polar bear paintings. This painting is a tribute to Fred. Scenes like this represent local and international travel. See the Travel section for images of paintings I created while traveling in the US and abroad.

I spent a couple summers with renowned Washington artist Eric Sandgren and his students, painting lighthouses on the Washington and Oregon coasts. Enjoy my lighthouse collection.

Cape Disappointment, 28 x 22, original watercolor, $1,000

I am currently working on a large art and history project to depict Lewis and Clark History and their Eastern Legacy. This is the first artwork in the series of 20 original drawings and paintings.

One of my joys in life is riding motorcycles. As an artist, I appreciate the artistic design of these machines, so I enjoy presenting the Art of the Motorcycle watercolor paintings.

Over eons, complex environmental and geologic forces have combined to create the fascinating land and seascapes of the Pacific Northwest. In my art, I like to present the stark beauty of the Columbia River Gorge and our Northwest landscape.
