About

About the Artist
In my life-long passion for creating art, I am inspired by the varied natural beauty and rich history of the Pacific Northwest. I have enjoyed many years hiking, climbing, skiing or backpacking in Europe and some of the Northwest’s most wild and scenic places. Now, through my landscape and seascape paintings, I enjoy telling stories of my outdoor adventures.

Growing up in Northern Iowa I often had a pencil, sketchbook and paints in my hands.  I enjoyed creating art of nearby farms, windmills and tall grass prairie. After college and service with the Navy in Vietnam, I was fortunate to live, work, and paint in Switzerland, Germany and Australia. In 1985, I settled with my family in Oregon where I worked as Emergency Manager for the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland. I am a Commander, US Naval Reserve, retired. In my retirement I am enjoying a career as a professional artist.

My sketchbook and paints continue to be constant companions in my travels and on the trail. I enjoy painting while my wife, Jean, creates beautiful award-winning quilts in our home studio in Oregon’s Cascade Mountains. Jean also reproduces my paintings on greeting and note cards. We are truly an artistic team!

During my artistic journey, I have been fortunate to study under several renowned watercolor artists, including Oregon’s Beth Verheyden, Colorado’s Steve Quiller and Paul Jackson from Missouri.

Collectors in the US and overseas have acquired many of my paintings. My original works of art are in the permanent collections of Timberline Lodge, Oregon (National Historic Landmark) and the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.
