My sketchbooks and pencils are constant companions. I use sketchbooks to jot down ideas and do preliminary planning for my paintings. With pencil and paper, I work out various compositions and areas of lights and darks. Then I am ready to consider color choices. Sometimes I create fine-line pencil drawings as finished works of art.
