Recently I have combined my love of art with my love of history. To depict historical subjects and events, some of my painting has turned from fine art to illustration. The difference between these two art forms is often a very fine line. I like to work in both genres.

Peanuts and Popcorn
Mason City 1909 Prints available Just looking at this colorful painting of a 1909 horse-drawn peanut and popcorn wagon, you can imagine the pleasant aroma of roasting peanuts and hot popcorn emanating from the wagon. The peanuts were steam-roasted near the wagon, and the fragrance attracted lots of hungry folks. This was a commissioned work I completed for a client in Arizona. We grew up in the same small town in Northern Iowa and this painting is based on a historic photo of the peanut wagon on the main street of our hometown. Enjoy! |
Most of the paintings in this section are commissioned works I created for my friend and client Chris, in Arizona. We are both from the same hometown in Northern Iowa. Chris asked me to do these paintings to celebrate some of the fascinating history of our town. It was an exciting assignment I just had to accept!

History of the West and Northwest are continuous themes in my paintings. Knowledge of history gives us perspective and a better understanding and appreciation of where we are today. It provides very important context in our lives.

This portrait is my painting of Alyssa, a member of the Umatilla Tribe, Eastern Oregon. She is the first person from her Tribe to graduate from Stanford University. I am very proud of her, as is her family and Tribe.
